Courtroom Modernization
Ottawa, September 7, 2023 – The Federal Court is moving ahead with its initiative to modernize facilities across the country by adding computer monitors for counsel.
Select courtrooms in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montréal are now equipped with double monitors at each counsel table. In these 10 courtrooms, counsel and self-represented litigants can connect laptops to monitors to view and manage their electronic documents more easily.
Although virtual hearings on Zoom account for about half of all court proceedings, the number of hearings held in person is gradually increasing. The Court is attentive to members of the Bar who expressed the need to have monitors in courtrooms.
“HDMI” cables have been installed to connect to the monitors. Counsel who use laptops without an HDMI port will need to bring their own adapters (e.g., HDMI to USB-C adapter).
Please note that counsel will be responsible for connecting their laptops to the monitors; no technical support will be provided.
